Who are Vorboss:

Vorboss is building London’s next-generation business fibre network. This is a responsibility that we take seriously; we understand that for most businesses, reliable fibre internet is as important as heat, electricity, and water. We want to completely change the fibre network in London (and beyond), and we’re on the hunt for smart, talented people to join us.

At Vorboss, we do the right thing—no matter what. Our unwavering focus on engineering excellence and unrivalled commitment to customer service is trusted by the most important organisations across the UK and Europe in the technology, pharmaceutical, financial, and e-commerce industries.

We’re proud to have earned one of the best reputations in the industry, and it is essential to us that we maintain that reputation as we grow. Our team is tight knit and highly talented. We trust each other to do the right thing, take responsibility, and be a champion for our collective success.

We’re looking for talented, smart people to join us as we embark on this exciting period of growth. Our vision for Vorboss is to be ‘the best job that someone ever had’, regardless of how long they stay with us, and promise to provide a supportive workplace based on respect and trust.

Role overview:

In Build, our mission is simple: enable fibre planning at London scale. We create network planning tools in close collaboration with our engineers to deliver customer connections faster and without faults. London’s infrastructure is complex and messy, requiring complex modelling and data-driven insights to navigate it – you don’t have to look far to see a Vorboss chamber delivered using our platform.

We’ve spent the last couple of years establishing a solid foundation of fibre tracking and the basis of planning. Now we want to get to the exciting parts: enhanced network visualisation, fault finding via graph analysis and optimised job scheduling. Let’s evolve fibre engineering to the next level.

As a Senior Product Engineer, we want people who’ve been there and deployed that, able to jump in to solve problems while continuously raising the bar for the rest of the team. This is a backend-focused role, roughly weighted 70:30.

Key responsibilities:

Product Engineering

At Vorboss, our philosophy is to scale the company through powerful software. Our team culture:

Get the job done: Teams are empowered to run as they see fit - choose the best tools and ways of working to deliver. Proactive contribution to team improvements helps us all.

Adaptable: Things change fast in the fibre business. Balancing strategic plans with seizing opportunities is vital in making our products stay ahead.

Ownership: Teams own their products, take initiative and shape the roadmap. We have our specialities but work across all parts of the stack where needed – from wireframes to infrastructure.

Collaboration: We work closely with stakeholders to turn ambiguity into opportunity. Quite often, our users sit at the next desk bank over or come in from the field often, so our feedback loops are tight.

The right candidate:

Must-Have Skills:

  • 5+ years of engineering experience in professional software development.
  • Experience with system architecture, knowing what approaches and trade-offs can lead to better outcomes.
  • Experience with Typescript or similar strongly typed languages. Ideally experience with writing Node.js services.
  • Experience developing with Neo4jor willingness to learn it. We use this as our main database to model the fibre network.
  • Experience with shipping performant APIs as well as event-driven architecture.
  • Experience with setting up CI/CD pipelines and working with one or more public cloud providers (preferably AWS, but also Azure, GCP, etc.).
  • Leading projects independently, occasionally running small teams. You’re able to craft proposals and get buy-in from across the organization (amongst software engineers and stakeholders).
  • Embracing that simple is better than complex, and you have intuition for what will last and scale.
  • Mentorship and growing engineers are a core part of who you are. You are often cited as the inspiration for engineers on your team.
  • Quick learner. Many of us don’t come from a telecoms background, and there’s lots to pick up all the time.
  • Strategic thinker who measures value delivered instead of lines of code.
  • Self-starter who can work with ambiguity – you drive continuous improvement through iteration.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with designing and developing GraphQL APIs.
  • Experience working in a start-up or scale-up environment.
  • Experience with React or other frontend frameworks.

You may not meet every single desired requirement listed under "the right candidate" section . If your experience looks a little different from what we’ve identified and you think you can bring value to the role, we’d love to learn more about you!
